DODD, CARL SIDE, ULLOCK PIKE, SKIDDAW, SKIDDAW LITTLE MAN, LONSCALE FELL and LATRIGG - 12 May 2007
Millbeck - Dodd - Carl Side - Ullock Pike - Skiddaw - Skiddaw Little Man - Lonscale Fell - Latrigg - Millbeck
14 miles, 4400 feet of ascent
Having parked at Millbeck, it was quite a slog up to Dodd, with the really unusual monument on the top. Plenty of low cloud around to spoil the views.
I could see the path I needed to take reaching up into the clouds.
From that path it was a good vew back to Dodd.
It was quite a long walk in the clouds until I reached Carlside.
Then it was Longside........
and Ullock Pike.
It was a real slog up to the top of Skiddaw. The slate underfoot didn't help and I think not being able to tell how much further there is to go always makes the distances seem greater.
Eventually the top was reached and boy was it windy. Still no view though!
Then suddenly a view appeared and Carlside, Carlside Tarn, Longside and the Ullock Pike ridge were there as if by magic.
Having been in the clouds for several hours it was great to actually see where I was going! Skiddaw Little Man next.
Lots of slate and wrought iron.
Keswick and Derwent in the sun.
Lonscale Fell was the next Wainwright, with the Skiddaw massif now free of cloud.
The Skiddaws.
On the way down now and there is Latrigg, or as a friend of mine calls it 'Haircut Hill'.
Now why wasn't Dodd as clear as that earlier in the day???
A 'Classic' walk.
