I always like to walk on New Years Day; it seems to get the year off to a good start.
The weather, certainly as we left the car park at Blea Tarn, was fantastic. All the trees were white with frost. As we started to climb the view opened up towards the Langdale Pikes.....
and also across Blea Tarn.
We soon reached the top of Lingmoor Fell, although unfortunately the tops of Crinkle Crags and Bowfell were shrouded in cloud.
We then headed past Lingmoor Tarn towards Side Pike. Sadly it was starting to cloud over. It had been -5 when we left the car; it was probably getting colder.
The cloud did make the scenery even more atmospheric.
Having crossed the road at the Cattle Grid we then headed towards Blea Tarn, which as you can see was frozen solid.
The classic Blea Tarn photo.
It was only a short walk, but very, very enjoyable. The pint at the Stickle Tarn Barn afterwards wasn't bad either! Happy New Year.
