Grasmere - Silver How - Lang How - Grasmere. 5 miles, 1300 feet of ascent
We started our walk from near the Travellers Rest (no apostrophe) at Grasmere with a delightful stroll through Butharlyp Howe and past Allan Bank, a former residence of one Mr W. Wordsworth.
The view included Helm Crag and Seat Sandal on one side................
and Loughrigg Fell (my first ever Wainwright) on the other.
The path to the top of Silver How is very clear
Time for some lunch with a superb view of Grasmere and Rydal Water with Loughrigg and Wansfell in the background. Never seen that strange woman before......honest
This must have been a splendid tarn below Lang How at one time but the colours of the marsh like vegetation were quite striking
The boundaries of the area can be clearly seen from the top of Lang How with Pike o'Blisco, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale Pikes forming the backdrop
By mid afternoon the cloud was clearing and the temperature made it a very pleasant afternoon, looking back to Silver How with Windermere beyond
The Pikes were getting some sunshine as well
I love the walk back to Grasmere down Wray Gill
first of all there is an expanse of Juniper and then lower down there is a mass of ferns. I know it's only a common or garden Foxglove but I love them.
All in all, Silver How is definitely one of my favourites with plenty to explore and see when one gets to the top. The weather certainly helped.
This lovely walk was followed by a very dark pint of Sneck Lifter at the Travellers Rest. Delicious.
