Spout Force - Graystones - Wythop Moss - Ling Fell - Sale Fell - Broom Fell - Lord's Seat - Barf - Ullister Hill - Spout Force.
12 miles, 3800 feet of ascent
When I left the car at Spout Force Car Park it was -4 degrees, but the top of Graystones was bathed in sunshine.
Looking beyond Scawgill Bridge, Low Fell and Fellbarrow were also feeling the benefit of the sunshine.
The face of Graystones is very steep which just accentuated the skill of the dry stone wallers.
Must admit I was out of breath when the top of Graystones came in to sight.
Next target of the day was Ling Fell, seen here from Wythop Moss.
From the trig point on Ling Fell, the route up the left shoulder and down the wall on the centre of Sale Fell could be seen very clearly.
By lunchtime it had become quite hazy and by the time I reached the top of Sale Fell it was difficult to make out many features on Skiddaw.
As the crow flies, it is only about 2 miles to Broom Fell, but believe me, on the ground it is an awful lot further and I was very relieved to get to the top!The views were getting even hazier.
The next objective of the day was Lord's Seat, which was reached by a very easy ridge walk.
Then it was time for the final peak of the day; Barf, with the Skiddaw massif beyond.
Really like Barf. Quirky sort of place with excellent (but still hazy) view along Bassenthwaite.
Six Wainwrights today, with about 11 miles and 3800 feet covered. Must admit I found the walking quite tough today, which may have something to do with the fact that I gave a pint of blood last night and as a result I was a bit low on energy. Must remember not to do that again! Oh well, only 28 Wainwrights, 8 walks to go.
